The 3rd National Youth Leadership Conference with the theme 2019 and Beyond:Leaders Nigeria Needs, was hosted at the Merit House building,Maitama Abuja on the 30th tuesday, October 2018.
The National Youth Leadership Conference began with the welcome address by Mr.Ibrahim Namadi, Secretary, governing board,Nigerian National Merit Award,while the Chairperson of NYLC planning Committee Chimdi Neliaku gave the vision of the conference as building consensus amongst youths on Nation building and empowerment.
The conference was attended by distinguished Nigerians,like Senator Dino Malaye,Hajiya Zainab Maina,ex-Minister of Women Affairs, vibrant Stakeholders from youths organisations,Schools,governments representatives, SDP chieftain Adakole Ijoji and other patriotic citizens .
Early highlights of the conference was when Mr.Aghedu,Deputy Registrar Baze University Abuja,climbed the podium,and expressed his admiration at the steady growth of his ex-students in the scheme of National influence and importance.He enjoined Nigerian youths to promote unity and patriotism as a tool for greatness.
Hajiya Zainab Maina,ex-Minister of Women Affairs,who was the mother of the day called on Nigerian youths to embrace patriotism as leaders of today and tomorrow .She said Nigeria can only be great if great leaders are nurtured and positioned for the leadership roles in Nigeria.
She debunked commentaries that suggest that Nigerian youths are not ready for leadership,citing exploits of Nigerian youths both at home and in the diaspora.
The sonorous highlights of the conference was when the controversial Sen.Dino Malaye came up stage to give an inspiring speech on the need for youths to break boundaries and strive to reach their goals regardless of their present situation.Sen.Malaye said hard work,guts and foresight is key to succed.
Sen.Malaye stopped short of announcing that he will be running for the post of the President of Nigeria,in future.When he revealed he was currently in School with an eye for future aspirations.
He said there was a serious need for youths to change the old destructive narrative of ethnicity and regional sentiments. Sen.Dino said there was need to change the primary school curriculum in order to change and improve Nation building Spirit.
Senator Dino said Silence is a crime in a unjust Nation thus the need for all Nigerians to speak up and destroy all dogma and rules. He wrapped up his remarks With a song “We shall overcome someday”.
In an exclusive chat with Global newsclock the founder and team lead NYLC Chimdi Neliaku said the conference will look to spell out the qualities of the various presidential aspirants,for the Nigerian youths to decide which candidate suits the Nigerian state with Nigeria Democratic Congress Party presidential flagbearer Dr.Johnson Edosomwan,one of fierce contenders for the presidency judging by his formidable team and pattern of seeking for votes.
Chimdi said they are not a political party thus they will be supporting no party or candidate but will rather x-ray the aspirants.She concluded by saying that the need to build and nurture today and tomorrow’s leaders was very essential for Nigeria’s greatness.
